Is your child showing signs of not wanting to practice?
brings nice weather in Michigan. All kids are excited to be able to
finally go outside and play without wearing all the winter gear and
being freezing cold. So, what should you do when they won't practice?
them go outside. First, have them play outside for a about 10 - 20
minutes (each family will make their own schedule) and then have your
child come and and practice for half their normal time. So, if your
child practices for 10 minutes per day, split it to 5 minutes. Some
parents can ask their child, after coming inside after playing, if they
want to get the entire 10 minutes done or interrupt play time again.
Let your child make the choice. But for those who choose to split their
practice time and have practice half their time, reward them with going
back outside for another 10 more minutes. Call them back in to finish
the other 5 minutes of practice. Give this process about one week.
what about my child who has a spring sports everyday? You will need to
re-write your family schedule for May. Start out by fitting in half
the normal practice time until your family adjusts to your new
schedule. After your family is adjusted, add the other half of practice
let your music instructor know if you are having problems with getting
your child to practice now with the nice weather. When it is cooler, or
raining, those are days in which you can make up practice times for the
week. But, make sure that your music instructor knows that you are
having problems with practice at home and get extra assistance with
tricks and not allow your children to go a week without practicing.
